The Sugar Witch

The Sugar Witch by Nathan Sanders is set in the Florida swamp country of the Watchalahoochee River unfolding an at times eerie, weird and often very funny story of what's left of the Bean family, Moses and Sisser, along with Annabelle, the Sugar Witch. And yes, there may be flying cats, casting of spells, country music, not to mention a few possible surprises.

Directed by Doug Lloyd and Produced by Debra Kent.
Production dates: October 22 - November 7, 2010
Auditions: Aug 23rd and 24th at 7 PM

CASTING REQUIREMENTS - Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

Sisser - Female - Late 20's to late 30's - Southern, Obese, and somewhat mad. A wheel chair bound lover of little Debbie Snack cakes. She is capable of anything - even murder.

Ruth Ann Meeks - Female - Late 20's to Mid 30's - Southern, Racist, and half insane. A "church-goer", plain, not necessarily pretty, most likely the product of incest.

Annabelle - African-American Female - Mid 40's to 50's - Southern swamp mystic and conjure woman. She brews magical potions from sugar cane molasses. Annabelle is the last in a long line of powerful "Sugar-Witches".

Moses Bean - Male - mid 20's - Southern, Handsome and boyish. He is a mechanic at the local Texaco station. Innocent and virginal; a gender reversed "Sleeping Beauty".

Hank Hartley - Male - 30's - Southern, handsome and strong. He is the play's "gentleman caller". He has recently returned to Sugar Bean to take over his family funeral home business. Hank is madly "in-love" but yet hiding a dark secret.

Granddaddy Meeks - Male - 60's to 70's - Southern, redneck, racist, abusive and mean. He is Ruth Ann's Grandfather.

Ravenscroft

Ravenscroft by Don Nigro pits one British Inspector against five possible murderesses in this send up of the traditional English locked room murder mystery. After the suspicious deaths of the handsome stable boy and Ravenscroft himself, the Inspector finds himself reeling as he tries to divine the truth, any truth, from each of the remarkable women in this house who are seemingly more than a match for him. Sparkling dialogue and very funny.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are your auditions?

Auditions for a given show will normally be held on the Monday and Tuesday (7pm doors open, 730pm start time) after the previous show opens. For the latest info, always check here because dates will be determined by the director and producer. Better yet, subscribe to the mailing list as discussed below. Note that from here on, all auditions will be held at 430 Wayne Ave, so please don't drive out to Salem Ave!

How can I find out about them?

Two ways -- check this website often, and subscribe to our mailing list. As we near the date of an audition, specific casting information will be posted online and sent out to our mailing list.

How are they conducted? Will I need a prepared monologue?

Auditions are handled by the director for that show, and each director has his or her own style. Generally, auditions will be conducted using readings from the play's script.

When will I know if I've been cast?

The directors are pretty good about making their selections within a few days after the 2nd night of auditions. In some cases, they may hold call-backs to fill certain roles, and they may ask you to read for a different part.
